About the role
RSPCA Victoria are currently seeking an enthusiastic and motivated qualified veterinary nurse to join our veterinary team at Epping. As our next full-time veterinary nurse, you will be required to work 38 hours per week from Monday to Friday.
Reporting to the Veterinary Nurse Team Leader, you will join a team of 3 vets and 4 nurses who provide veterinary care for shelter animals coming into our facility. You will work in various roles in the RSPCA clinic, including surgical nurse, wards nurse, consult nurse, welfare nurse and induction nurse, and your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
Monitoring patients under anaesthetic using multi parameter unit SPO2, NIBP, ECG and temperature;
Assisting with induction of patients and preparing patients for surgery;
Working with the team on high volume desexingdays;
In clinic care of surgical and medical cases;
Foster nurse consults;
Assisting Veterinarians with digital x-rays and ultrasound;
Assisting Veterinarians with inducing patients for surgery;
Completing patient paperwork and dispensing medications as instructed by Veterinarians;
General cleaning and maintenance of all clinic areas;
Assisting Veterinarians in preparing cytology samples for patients;
Following infection control protocol; and
Group admissions and discharges for private high volume
Skills and Experience
The successful applicant will be required to have the following skills, experience and qualifications:
A Certificate IV in Veterinary nursing (equivalent or above) and demonstrated experience in a veterinary nursing position
Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment, whilst showing great care and compassion to the animals in our care;
Previous experience working in a shelter environment is a bonus, however not essential;
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment; and
Have a current tetanus vaccination or be willing to get a tetanus vaccination as part of the recruitment process.
