Ideal location in Melbourne Eastern suburbs – Burwood East
About the RSPCA
RSPCA Victoria is a non-government, community-based, not-for-profit organisation whose vision is to end cruelty to all animals. We are Victoria’s most well-known and well-respected animal welfare organisation.
RSPCA Victoria’s purpose is to work with the community to achieve outstanding animal welfare through education, advocacy, and animal care and protection. A Veterinary career with RSPCA Victoria is an opportunity to contribute your skills and knowledge to make a life-saving difference to large numbers of animals and the community. Our Burwood East site has a clinic that services private and shelter patients.
About the role
As a Vet with the RSPCA no two days are the same, with a consistently large and varied caseload supported by a team of over 40 Vets and Veterinary nursing staff. We have a state of the art ultrasound machine, direct digital x-rays, dental x-rays, iM3 dental equipment, ECG machine, and IDEXX diagnostic equipment. We foster a positive and supportive work environment that engages our Vets with a strong emphasis on continued professional growth opportunities. Your career will expand with interesting medicine cases, shelter medicine, routine and complex surgeries and an emphasis on professional development.
We predominantly treat cats and dogs, but also see a reasonably large number of pocket pets and care for a small number of farm animals in our Education program. A unique aspect of being an RSPCA Veterinarian is caring for Inspector seized animals and providing evidence for their legal cases.
The diverse and interesting role will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to:
Deliver excellence in medical and surgical service to private clients
Contribute to quality shelter medicine and care
Work with and learn from special interest practitioners in areas such as orthopaedics, medicine, ultrasound and ophthalmology
Pursue CPD opportunities including annual 5 days study leave pro-rata, annual $2000 pro-rata CPD allowance, annual awarded Wotherspoon Scholarship, and frequent in-house training opportunities
Support our crucial Inspectorate casework
Further develop mentoring skills and take on leadership roles within the team and organisation
Assist the RSPCA Education and Learning team in educating the community on the welfare of animals
Access our Employee Assistance Program
Essential attributes of a successful applicant include:
Accountable and proactive attitude with outstanding time management skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Exceptional capacity to work cohesively in the clinic and larger RSPCA team whilst fostering a positive team environment
Resilient and constructive approach to challenges
Capability to conduct simple to complex clinical consultations and surgical procedures independently
Desire and ability to mentor less experienced Vets or Nursing staff
Victorian Veterinary registration, Victorian drivers' licence, radiation use license and microchipping implantation certificate
