About the role
We are looking for part-time or full-time Veterinarians to provide quality veterinary services for shelter and private animals at our Pearcedale shelter.
As a Vet with the RSPCA no two days are the same. You will have the opportunity to work with a large and varied caseload, and have a strong interest in animal welfare, shelter medicine and small animal medicine and surgery. The clinic in Pearcedale is fully computerised and well-equipped, including ultrasound, digital x-rays, iM3 dental and IDEXX diagnostic equipment. You’ll be a part of our passionate and driven clinic team of vets and vet nursing staff and be supported in your work by our management team.
The diverse and interesting role will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to:
Deliver excellent veterinary services to shelter, private and Inspectorate animals;
Gain exposure to unique shelter animal work;
Provide excellent service to internal and external customers, as well as education, and guidance to the public to influence positive animal welfare outcomes;
Develop mentoring and leadership skills within the team and organisation;
Support our crucial Inspectorate casework, providing veterinary services to animals which are subject to cruelty allegations;
Help in emergency response situations; and
Develop special interest skills through CPD opportunities, including 5 days Study leave per year, annual CPD allowance, and Wotherspoon Scholarship
To be successful in this position, you will need the following skills, experience, qualifications and licenses:
A Bachelor of Veterinary Science, current Victoria Veterinary Surgeon Registration, microchipping license and radiation license;
Experience practising as a Veterinarian in a shelter or private clinic environment, with the ability to conduct simple to complex medical consultations and surgical procedures independently;
Possess resilience and the ability to work in a fast paced work environment, whilst showing great care and compassion to the animals in our shelter;
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment, including the ability and desire to coach/mentor junior Veterinarians;
Strong interest in animal welfare, shelter medicine and small animal medicine and surgery;
A desire to work with the community to improve animal welfare outcomes; and
Strong communication skills: both verbal and written, and exceptional organisational skills
Veterinarians with equine / livestock experience and skills are desirable, however not essential.
Qualifications & Other Requirements
Valid Victorian Driver’s License
A current tetanus vaccination or willing to get a current tetanus vaccination as part of the recruitment process.
The ability to work rotating rosters including weekends and public holidays
