About the role

We are currently recruiting two experienced permanent part-time certified veterinary nurses to join our team in at the Epping Animal Welfare Facility. We are a clinic consisting of 4 permanent nurses and 4 permanents veterinarians. 

Our clinic consists of an operating theatre, prep room, separate cat and dog wards, small laboratory, digital x-ray capability and computerised record keeping.    

The successful candidate will provide high quality veterinary nursing services to RSPCA Victoria shelter patients. This exciting new opportunity will have a welfare focus and will allow you to be involved in checks of animals, collecting samples, triaging cases in the shelter, assisting shelter veterinarians in managing shelter patients and consults.  In this role, you will also be required to assist veterinarians in surgeries and provide a high level of customer service to Foster Care clients and other RSPCA Victoria internal departments.

The successful applicant will be required to work (8:30am – 4:30pm) or (9am – 5pm) shifts with 1 in 4 weekends and some public holidays.

What we are looking for from you

  • A few years’ experience in a veterinary nursing role is in a fast-paced practice is required, including basic knowledge of animal anatomy, behaviour, disease recognition and safe/calm handling practices.
  • Well-developed veterinary nursing knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work in a challenging work environment, whilst showing great care and compassion to the animals in our care.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem solving and organisational skills
  • A positive and can-do attitude.
  • The ability to work autonomously
  • The ability to work rotating rosters including some weekends and public holidays.
  • Previous shelter or welfare experience is desirable.

Qualifications and other requirements

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent) is required.
  • Evidence of current tetanus vaccination required.
  • National Police Check required.
