RSPCA Victoria is seeking a passionate and experienced Animal Care Supervisor to join our team at Burwood East. You will play a crucial role in leading and motivating your team to provide the highest quality care for animals in our shelter.

About the role

As the Animal Care Supervisor, you will provide leadership and support to our Animal Care Team, ensuring the best possible welfare outcomes for every animal in our care.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of staff and volunteers to deliver high-quality animal care.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to improve animal welfare outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other departments to achieve organizational goals.
  • Oversee daily operations and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Provide support and guidance to team members.
  • Manage animal care issues and resolve problems effectively.
  • Prepare and manage team rosters and budgets.

What we are looking for

  • Previous experience leading and managing a diverse and geographically dispersed team.
  • Previous experience in the animal welfare sector, including extensive knowledge of animal anatomy, behaviour, disease recognition and safe handling.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of good animal welfare practices and requirements under shelter related legislation and codes of practice.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment, whilst showing great care and compassion to the animals in our shelter.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment.

Highly desirable

  • Formal qualification in shelter medicine, animal care or behaviour

Recruitment Requirements 

  • Current and valid driver’s license
  • Current Employee Working with Children’s Check (WWCC)
  • Current tetanus vaccination.
